Sweet-tooth

Sweet-tooth, copper

Have you ever had a Moscow Mule? If you live in any major city, I’m going to assume so. This drink could be deemed one of the trendiest on the bar scene. It’s light, refreshing, and even cures stomach pain? Huh? It’ true! Ginger beer, like ginger ale, can help settle your stomach when you feel nauseated or experience ingestion. According to Phyllis A. Balch in “Prescription for Herbal Healing,” clinical studies have shown that ginger relieves nausea better than over-the-counter drugs such as Dramamine. So, laadddiiieeeessss, if you’re dealing with some morning sickness, do not have a moscow mule, but ginger beer will do the trick! (ginger beer is non-alcholoic for you newbies.) Another amazing tid-bit, a moscow mule is a delicious paleo friendly cocktails. Yes, there is sugar in it. But, if you’re going to a bar with a mixologist, which is really the only way to go, then you will see he/she will be using only fresh ingredients. Or better yet, make your own! Karl and I love to do this when it starts to get really warm out. It’s so refreshing to sit outside and cheers with a cold Mule.

A little history for ya… According to an article in Liquor.com, the Moscow Mule dates back to 1941, by John G. Martin, an executive at the Heublein drinks company, Jack Morgan, owner of the Los Angeles British pub Cock ‘n’ Bull, and the Cock ‘n’ Bull’s head bartender, Wes Price. What we gather is that Martin bought the rights to Smirnoff for Heublein in the late 1930s, but was having a difficult time getting Americans to drink it as vodka wasn’t very popular in the U.S back then. Then, history states that Morgan had ordered far too much ginger beer for his bar and was also having issue selling it. The two joined forces with Price and BAM! a cocktail masterpiece was born. Another fact, the mugs came about from Morgan’s girlfriend, no surprise that the woman was the brains of this operation, who owned a company that made copper products, thus simply supplying the mugs. And we all know, a Moscow Mule is not simply complete without the right hardware– copper.

I love these copper mugs, probably more than I enjoy actually drinking. When it comes to dining or entertaining, I’m always one for adding little extra touches to dress-up the occasion.
