Ah… it is that time of year! Stores are filled with holiday decorations, homes are light up with twinkling lights, and everyone is starting to countdown the days until they can put up their “out of office” reply. ha-ha But really, I love this time of year. And, I love gifting! Truly finding a thoughtful gift for friends and family is so much fun! Plus, its all about the wrapping. Hello! That’s my fave! I’m not gonna lie, there are always “things” I want. Like this, or that, oh and this… Well, okay, you get the picture.

But, get this. I’m kind of weird when it comes to the holidays and birthdays, but Christmas mainly. I do a little switch-a-roo with Thanksgiving and Christmas, and I feel that Christmas is more about giving to those that DON’T have a lot. There are so many people that struggle day after day to just keep food on the table and a smile on their face. In addition to myself, my friends and family are all very fortunate people. There isn’t one person that doesn’t deserver the world, of course,  but there really isn’t one of us that can complain. Sure, we all have “those” days, struggles, and whatnot. But, that just comes with the territory– life.

K calls me a “bahumbug” but really, unless I know they need it, I don’t like just giving “Aunt Thelma” a gift card to JCP because I have to buy her something. And, where is the fun in that? Sure, Auntie would love a new decorative sweater, but she’s got 10 in her closet. Ya, feel me?

So, this year, I wanted to give you a gift guide that isn’t just trendy, fun, innovative items. But instead, if you’re going to spend money this season, be sure you are doing all or one of the following: 1. Spend money locally and support your small businesses. 2. Give back directly to a cause of your choice. For example:  Adopting a family, or 3. Buy a gift that gives back.

Here are a few of my gift giving suggestions:

For The BOSS in your life: Bando

I am obsessed with everything Bando does. Is it so bad that I just wanna be apart of their #Bandogirlgang? Their drinkware, desk accessories, and journals are my fave and perfect gift for the #GIRLBOSS in your life.

The Paleo Foodie: Every Last Crumb by Brittany Angell

This is the cookbook at the top of my list– take note Santa! Brittany Angell is known for her decadent and delicious creations– all gluten, dairy, and nut-free. In this book, Angell created baked favorites such as croissants, puff pastries, sandwich bread, soft pretzels, bagels rolls and more!

The Stocking Stuffer: 6D Hair Ties

6D Hair Ties is a socially responsive and eco-friendly company. Beyond the holiday season, they partner with Advo Companies, Inc,  a non-profit organization that operates a vocational training center and residential home for people with intellectual disabilities. And they support charities such as First Descents, which offers young adult cancer fighters and survivors a free outdoor adventure experience designed to empower them to climb, paddle and surf beyond their diagnosis, defy their cancer, reclaim their lives and connect with others doing the same. Check out their custom pet printed hair ties… how cute are they?!

The Beauty Bae: Kiehls

Kiehl’s teamed up with Norman Rockwell and Feeding America this season. When you purchase any of their limited edition products, they have committed to providing 1M meals to families in need and 100% of the net-profits of sales go to support Feeding America.

The Decorator: Citizenry

Citizenry not only believes that “our homes should be reflections of the journeys we take,” but, they live by this motto through the sustainable relationships they make all around the world, literally. They personally travel to each country (lucky them!) and bring consumers handmade goods, crafted with the highest quality materials, at more reasonable prices than traditional luxury boutiques. Just take a look at their throws– swoon

The Fashionista: Ascot+Hart

Ascot+Hart is my favorite stylish bestie duo. Everything they sell screams ultra cool–from their booties, vintage tees and GAIA bags, handmade bags by resettled refugee women in Dallas, Texas. You can’t go wrong with gifting any of their finds!

The Gem: James Michelle

Jamie Isreal, creator of James Michelle, has an inspiring story– read here.  Injunction with her story, her jewelry is just as beautiful. Each piece handmade and designed uniquely by Jamie. A few of my favorites are her hand-stamped necklaces, and mini cuff rings; both perfect for a mom, sister, or bestie!
