Garlic Lime Prawns

Garlic Lime Shrimp
This dish is inspired by the spontaneous trip I took with two of my sorority sisters to Australia. The deciding conversation when something like this:

“What are you guys doing for New Years?”

“Hmm.. no plans yet. But, we should do something or take a trip.”

“Yeah, but where?”

“Let’s go to Australia!”

SydneyWithin a matter of hours, there we were, the three of us booking flights, hotels and planning to bring in 2011 Aussie-style. While in Australia, we tried to blend in with the locals by making sentences with the only “Aussie terms” we knew. Things like, “Let’s put shrimp on the barbie in our cozies wearing sunnies”. Translation: Grill shrimp in a bathing suit while wearing sunglasses? We quickly learned that we had horrible accents, although we thought differently, and “shrimp on the barbie” was not a term the Aussies use. One of our new “Aussie friends” informed us the correct statement is “Prawns on the Barbie”. To this day I get a kick out of correcting people when they say “Shrimp on the Barbie”. But truth be told, I’m sure our good old Aussie bud was pulling a fast one on the Californian sorority girls.

It does make me smile and brings back all the fun memories from that one time, on a whim, I decided to go Australia.

This recipe is super low maintenance, fast and very flavorful. Perfect for those lazy cooking nights. Plus, you can get really creative and make a taco bar, through them in a salad, or pair it with some great sides like I did, roasted brussels sprouts and coconut rice {coming soon to a blog near you}.

Simply Enjoy!
